Multnomah County Chair
The Chair is the Chief Executive Officer and personnel officer of Multnomah County. The Chair oversees and administers all County programs except those under the elected Sheriff, Auditor, District Attorney and Commissioners. The Chair presides over Board meetings and votes. The Chair executes Board policies, contracts, bonds and other instruments, and prepares the executive budget for submission to the Board of Commissioners.

The Chair and Commissioners are elected to four-year terms on non-partisan ballots. The Chair is elected to serve at-large. The Commissioners are elected from west, north, central and east geographic districts based on population as established by the Home Rule Charter. The Commissioners conduct all legislative activities of the County. As such, they adopt policies; sit as the budget committee; review and amend the executive budget; hold hearings; and adopt the County budget. They act as liaisons to departments, advisory boards and commissions; make changes in administrative departments; fill vacancies in elective offices; and, adopt labor agreements. By County Charter, the elected Auditor annually appoints and convenes the Salary Review Commission to set salaries for the Chair and the County Commissioners, and per Resolution, recommend the salary for the Sheriff and the County supplement for the District Attorney. The Salary Review Commission is composed of qualified citizens with personnel experience.
The Board meets in Regular Session each Thursday at 9:30 a.m. to deliberate on County business and make decisions. The Board meets for Briefings on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. The Board meets other days and/or times as necessary for Executive Sessions, Work Sessions, and Budget Hearings. Cancellations will be noticed on this web site at least 72 hours before the meeting. All meetings are open to the public, except Executive Sessions.
The Board of Commissioners hold their meetings at the Multnomah Building, 501 SE Hawthorne, in Board Room 100, immediately off the lobby. This room is ADA-accessible. Assisted Listening Devices are available on request.
Public Comment is taken at the Regular Board Meetings on Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. and limited to three minutes per person for non-agenda items. Please fill out a yellow speaker form before the meeting and give it to the Board Clerk. If providing written testimony, please submit a total of 7 copies to the Board Clerk.

Board Packets can be viewed by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday for the following week .
