We, the Multnomah Youth Commission, established the Youth Against Violence Committee (YAV) in 2011 to the response of growing violence directed towards young people in the forms of anti-gay and gender, cyberbullying, gang, home, police, school (bullying) and sexual / dating violence.

Every year, Multnomah County’s Commission on Children, Families & Community (CCFC) recognizes the efforts of “local heroes” who work to make a positive difference in the lives of people living on a low - income and impacted communities in Multnomah County. CCFC’s Poverty Action Council created the award in 2006 to honor individual and organizational efforts to address poverty in our community.
