Evidence-Based Practices
"Creating a 'what works' environment means that everyone who has anything to do with an offender – from entry into the system to completion – is focused on assisting that person to be successful and is consistent on how they do that."
Mark Gornik – August 16, 2002 presentation
The “What Works” Initiative is a transition to more effective case management practices. It is premised on the ability and willingness of offenders to change when appropriately motivated and supported; its foundation is the collective skills and experience of all staff and their commitment to this vision and mission: its framework is skilled assessments, collaborative case planning, and offender interactions that increased motivation, nurture strengths, increase personal responsibility, and enable offenders to repair the harm their acts have caused; its promise is an organization committed to our mission of public safety and accountable to our community.
