This week's shopping includes a trip to the hardware store.  Make sure you check your household for items that you might already have and note where you normally keep them.

Task 1:  Read about Go-Kits for evacuations and start putting one together.  You never know when you might have to leave your house quickly, and you want to make sure you have some basic supplies to carry you through until you can return.

Taks 2:  If you have pets, plan to take them with you Family Pet Emergency Plan (80.96 KB) if you have to evacuate.  Keep extra food, water, a pet carrier, toys, and leashes/harnesses in your emergency kit.

This Week's Shopping List:

  • Plumber's tape
  • Crowbar
  • Smoke detector with an extra battery
  • 2 wind-up flashlights, or 2 battery-powered flashlights with extra batteries

Considerations:  Your household may already have smoke detectors, so this is a good time to replace their batteries and check them for functionality.  Smoke detectors should be replaced every 10 years.
