Multnomah County to participate in Older Americans Month celebration

April 07, 2010

Commissioner Shiprack and City of Portland Commissioner Nick Fish will present a proclamation and celebration of the older Americans in our community on May 6. This year's Older Americans Month comes with a theme that is meant to encourage and teach people how to live healthier, longer and fuller lives: "Age Strong! Live Long!"

Two former Multnomah County employees, Lear Smith and Bertha G. Doblie, recently turned 100 and they will be honored during the day's events. Amber Kern-Johnson (Hollywood Senior Center Executive Director and member of the Healthy Aging Coalition of Multnomah County), Sarah Broderick (Hollywood Farmers’ Market Manager) and Augusta Hayter (Elders in Action Commissioner, member of the Senior Hunger & Poverty Work Group) are also scheduled to speak at the celebration.

The Older Americans Month Proclamation and Presentation will take place Thursday, May 6 at 9:30 a.m. in the Multnomah County Boardroom. There will also be a presentation on Wednesday, May 12 at 9 a.m. at Portland City Hall.
