Saltzman and Wheeler take helm of public safety group

February 5, 2009

Portland City Commissioner Dan Saltzman and Multnomah County Chair Ted Wheeler will co-chair the Local Public Safety Coordinating Council (LPSCC) in 2009. The monthly meetings of LPSCC bring together judges, police chiefs, the District Attorney, parole and probation leaders, the Sheriff, victims’ advocates, the U.S. attorney and many other public safety stakeholders to increase coordination and cooperation.

In a news release announcing the arrangement, Wheeler said the shared duties will demonstrate a higher level of collaboration in a time of shrinking budgets. The co-chairs’ short-term agenda includes outlining areas where collaboration can improve and increasing the group’s breadth with a focus on the cities in East Multnomah County.

Together, they replace former Multnomah County Commissioner Lisa Naito, who served as LPSCC chair from 2000 until 2008.
