Central City Community Garden Helps County Residents Grow More Food

This past weekend, as reported on Oregon Public Broadcasting News, community members gathered at the Multnomah County East Building in downtown Gresham to help plant vegetables, and learn about healthy eating at the Central City Community Garden (CCCG). The CCCG is located on County land but is run by the community based organization Outgrowing Hunger. The Multnomah County Office of Sustainability worked with Outgrowing Hunger to put the vacant county land to use growing food.

Climate Report Shows Significant Progress Reducing GHG's

Multnomah County and the City of Portland have released a two-year progress report for 2009 Climate Action Plan. The progress report shows that total local carbon emissions continue to decline. By the end of 2010, emissions were 6 percent below 1990 levels, while national carbon emissions are up almost 12 percent over the same period. On a per person basis, Multnomah County carbon emissions have dropped 26 percent since 1990.
10 Years of Sustainability Success

Fiscal Year 2011 marked the ten-year anniversary of the Multnomah County Office of Sustainability. In those ten-years a lot has been accomplished! The Office of Sustainability Progress Report, just released, documents the environmental, social, and economic benefits that have accrued to the communities of Multnomah County over the past 10 years.
