Beginning Urban Farmer Apprenticeship (BUFA) Program
BUFA application period is open from November 15, 2011 to January 15, 2012.
Multnomah County, in partnership with Oregon State University (OSU) Extension Service, is excited to announce the second year of the Beginning Urban Farmer Apprenticeship (BUFA) program. The program is an 8-month, season-long training for aspiring urban farmers and community land stewards. It is designed to give a new generation of beginning farmers the knowledge and skills they need to break into the field of sustainable small-scale, urban farming.
Participants will gain the knowledge and skills of urban farming through:
- Classroom training, field trips and an online learning platform
- Hands-on, in-the-field apprenticeship with experienced local farmers
- OSU's established Growing Farms: Successful Whole Farm Management Workshop Series, which is focused on farm business planning.
There are two tracks for participation in BUFA in 2012
Track 1: This track includes all of the above programming. The time commitment for this track is 550 hours over the course of 8 months. (30 participants maximum)
Track 2: This track is intended for individuals who want to increase their knowledge and skills in urban farming through classroom and field trip training, without the hands-on, in-the-field training. The time commitment for this track is 120 hours over the course of 8 months. (10 participants maximum)
