Battling the Opioid and Overdose Epidemic


Multnomah County Health Department is working to reduce the incidence of overdose and overdose fatalities in our community. We have four key areas of focus:

  • Prevention 
  • Harm reduction and intervention 
  • Treatment
  • Ongoing recovery support

The Health Department provides a wide range of services across the spectrum of care from prevention to recovery. Some of these include:

  • Behavioral Health Call Center
  • Mobile behavioral health crisis services
  • Treatment and recovery support services
  • Clinician education to reduce prescriptions for medications that contain opioids 
  • Syringe exchange services and Naloxone distribution
  • Training for community-based organizations in Naloxone use
  • Behavioral Health Resource Center day use facility
  • Coordinated care for people leaving correctional settings
