Multnomah County Board of Commissioners

The Chair and Commissioners are elected to four-year terms on non-partisan ballots. The Chair is elected to serve at-large. The Commissioners are elected from west, north, central and east geographic districts based on population as established by the Home Rule Charter. The Commissioners conduct all legislative activities of the County. As such, they adopt policies; sit as the budget committee; review and amend the executive budget; hold hearings; and adopt the County budget. They act as liaisons to departments, advisory boards and commissions; make changes in administrative departments; fill vacancies in elective offices; and adopt labor agreements.

The Multnomah County Home Rule Charter directs the County Auditor to appoint a Salary Commission by January 1 of each even year. The Commission sets the salaries for the Chair of the Board of County Commissioners, County Commissioners, the Sheriff, and the County-paid supplemental salary of the District Attorney. The Salary Review Commission is composed of qualified citizens with personnel experience.
