Several downtown streets to close June 23-25 during courthouse crane erection

June 21, 2017

Several downtown streets will be closed the weekend of June 23-25 during erection of the construction crane for Multnomah County’s new Central Courthouse. The work will be completed during non-commute hours.

The traffic plan will be in place from 7 p.m. on Friday, June 23 until Sunday evening, June 25.

  • SW Madison Street will be closed from SW Second Avenue to east of SW Naito Parkway. Eastbound access to the Hawthorne Bridge for motor vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians will be maintained from northbound SW Naito. From downtown, use SW Columbia Street eastbound, turn left at SW Naito. This will be the eastbound detour route for TriMet buses that use the Hawthorne Bridge.
  • SW First Ave. will be closed from SW Main Street to SW Jefferson Street

Westbound access to the Hawthorne Bridge will not be impacted.

The construction crane will be 296 feet tall initially.  When the structure reaches mid-height, the crane height will be extended to 418 feet.

The new Central Courthouse is estimated to cost $300 million and open in 2020.  For project information, visit /central-courthouse.
