Multnomah County’s new law on e-cigarettes will roll out in phases. The law goes into effect April 5, 2015. The Health Department is conducting a campaign to educate property owners, businesses and citizens about the new ordinance. The Health Department is also developing a public rule-making process on potential penalties and enforcement.
This stairstep approach gives the Oregon Legislature time to act on bills that would regulate the use of e-cigarettes statewide.
Members of the Board of County Commissioners have stated they will revisit the issue based on any legislation. The Oregon Legislature ends the current session July 11, 2015.
