On Wednesday, March 21, 2012, over 100 people gathered at the Portland State University School of Social Work for the Charles Shireman Memorial Lecture.  Shay Bilchik, Director of the Center for Juvenile Justice Reform at Georgetown University, delivered this year’s speech entitled, “If We Knew Then What We Know Now: Implications for Juvenile Justice Policy in America”.

The lecture had particular relevance for the Multnomah County Juvenile Services Division which collaborates with Mr. Bilchik and Georgetown University on the Crossover Youth Project.  Multnoamh County is one of twelve jurisdictions using the Crossover Youth Model to strengthen how the juvenile justice, child welfare, and other related systems coordinate care for youth. Thuy Vanderlinde, JSD Senior Manager, also participated in the evening’s guest panel moderated by Dr. David Springer.  The panel members included:

  • Mark McKechnie, Executive Director, Youth Rights & Justice
  • Judge Nan Waller, Multnomah County Presiding Circuit Court Judge
  • Thuy Vanderlinde, Manager, Multnomah County Community Justice, Juvenile Services Division
