In September 2006, I applied for, and was selected to fill a vacant seat on the Reynolds School Board. My interest in the position was as a parent of two young children. My wife and I are actively involved in our children's education and I wanted to fulfill my civic duty by rolling up my shirt sleeves and digging in to the challenges facing our local schools. This is my second election for the office and I want to finish the critically important work the School Board has been doing.
As a voter, I know you are faced with a difficult decision this election. With the state of the school district, it may be easy to discount anyone with direct involvement. The qualities that I bring to the school board role include:
- commitment to public education;
- courage to confront the status quo when it is not working for students, parents or patrons;
- support of school employees who face challenging situations every day;
- courage to take decisive action, even when it is unpopular;
- dedication to put in the time required for school board work.
