Inspired by teachers who during my youth embraced intellectual curiosity and empathy towards others, I followed the path of public service upon graduating from college. My early years in public education focused on at-risk teens and special needs students, the latter years utilizing technology in the classroom.
Throughout my 20 years in public education I received numerous accolades and awards for my curricular innovation, positive results and passion in guiding students to succeed beyond expectations. My final recognition was a nomination for Oregon Teacher of the Year for developing and integrating a nationally acclaimed student mentorship program.
Even though I retired from teaching to start a successful small business with my wife, public education continues to be an integral part of our lives. Our two children attend Riverdale schools, one at the high school, the other at the grade school.
My broad Riverdale community involvement includes scope and sequence curriculum development to coaching a state finalist Robotics Team to leading our high school students to the summit of Mt. Hood – raising enough funds to build a school in the mountains of Pakistan. My commitment to our students and community led to an appointment to the Riverdale School Board in June 2008.
My success in the private sector, along with a keen understanding of public education, brings a unique and diverse perspective to a multitude of issues School Board Members are required to address.
I have a long history of prioritizing student needs, and with determination, advocate in their best interest.
With your support I hope to continue my tenure on the Riverdale School Board in the spirit of educational excellence, fiscal responsibility and community service.
