QUALIFIED LEADERSHIP

Kirby Brouillard has demonstrated the LEADERSHIP, EXPERIENCE, and EDUCATION to lead the Sheriff’s office in the 21st century.

Brouillard understands keeping the public safe is the Sheriff’s primary responsibility and the emphasis must be on its jails. Criminals should never be released, to prey on the public, for the lack of bed space.

Brouillard believes mentally ill people belong in a hospital not in a jail cell.

Today the Sheriff’s Office is a recognized professional agency.

Brouillard credits former Sheriff Don Clark with beginning this process by creating the first procedures manual in the mid 1960’s.

An Organization must hold itself accountable to have the trust of the public and its own employees. Employees must know they will be treated according to established rules and not the whims of individual supervisors.

Brouillard will maintain the current Internal Affairs Unit and establish a strong Inspections Unit.

Brouillard does not believe in making empty promises to unions and associations to gain their support.

VOTING FOR BROUILLARD will assure continued integrity in the Sheriff’s Office.

VERA POOL

OCCUPATION: Corrections Lieutenant, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office

OCCUPATIONAL BACKGROUND: Department Public Safety Standards and Training Academy Instructor, and Division Commander (Chief Deputy).

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: Grant High School; Portland Community College, A.A. Degree; University of Portland, B.A. Degree; University of Portland, M.A. Degree; University of Portland, M.S. Degree; Certified Mediator, Graduate of Mark O. Hatfield School of Government.

PRIOR GOVERNMENTAL EXPERIENCE: Board on Department Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) appointed, served 8 years. Academy Instructor for State of Oregon, 7 years.

Vera Pool has over 31 years of experience in Corrections, including 27 years in supervision and command management positions. She is committed to public safety, community livability, and stopping the increase in the use of jail beds for mental health offenders due to the lack of mental health services in the community.

Vera Pool’s professional affiliations and community associations will help her work toward successful partnerships between the Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies. She plans to review the recommendations for occupancy of Wapoato Jail and the sources for operational funding. She will also involve the community to address problems such as jail closures, overcrowded jails and citizen complaints.

Vera Pool strongly believes that we have an opportunity to make a difference in Multnomah County. Her plan will include maintaining mandated services in an environment of continued budget reductions, enhancing collaboration and partnership with other agencies in addressing crime. One such program would include the formulation of a youth advisory committee in order to divert at-risk juveniles from a career of crime. She believes community involvement and neighborhood participation will enable the implementation of more anti-crime programs. She is the only experienced candidate who can best implement changes in the Sheriff’s Office by including the community and Sheriff’s Office employees.

Vera Pool is an experienced, respected public servant with a proven track record. She is the best choice for Sheriff.
Endorsed by: Senator Avel Gordly, Jamie Partridge, Lucia N. Pena
