"I can't believe the day has come where I can give back to the community that provided healthcare to my family and me!"

Dr. Filza Akhtar, Physician

When did you become interested in being a Physician for Multnomah County?

I first decided to be a doctor as a young child. I lived nearby the Mid County Health Center when it was built. As a patient of the clinic, I dreamed of someday working for Multnomah County. My personal experience of growing up and being a patient in Multnomah County is what sets it apart. I can't believe the day has come where I can give back to the community that provided healthcare to my family and me!

What keeps you engaged?

The patients and staff, both of whom are lovely and share a like-minded appreciation for our work, are what keep me engaged in my work.

Why does This Work Matter to you?

This work matters because we are serving a unique population in the Portland-metro area who would probably not have consistent health care otherwise. Some may even grow to give back to these very communities.
