Proposed Amendments to Zoning Code and Rural Area Plan:
Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area
On October 4, 2021 at 6:30 P.M., the Multnomah County Planning Commission will hold a virtual public hearing (accessible online or by phone) regarding whether to recommend the adoption of amendments to the Multnomah County Chapter 38 zoning code and Comprehensive Plan in response to federally mandated revisions to the Management Plan for the Columbia River National Scenic Area approved by the Columbia River Gorge Commission (Gorge 2020 Project). Other amendments are also proposed to Chapter 38 code and to the Multnomah County Comprehensive Plan not related to the Management Plan revisions.

About the Project
The Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area Act requires that the NSA’s Management Plan be reviewed and updated every ten years. On October 13, 2020, the Columbia River Gorge Commission adopted revisions to the Management Plan.
Learn more about the Management Plan.
As a result of the Management Plan update, we have drafted amendments to our zoning code which apply to county land within the NSA. We have also drafted amendments to the part of our Comprehensive Plan that applies to this land. You may view the October 4, 2021 staff report and proposed amendments to the Multnomah County Chapter 38 Zoning Code and Comprehensive Plan on the Planning Commission page:
Most of the amendments are required to implement the changes to the Management Plan. Other amendments provide additional clarity and correct errors.
More information about the project can be found at the Columbia River Gorge Commission’s Gorge 2020 project webpage.
