Why did you join the MYC?
I originally had joined the MYC because I was interested in making change within my community, however it has expanded my horizons and served as a incredible introduction to local politics. I am now working with a variety of community, government and non-profit organizations toward the common goal of making life better for Oregonians and I am constantly seeking new opportunities to create change.
What is an issue/movement that is important to you?
I am super passionate and interested in our education system. Action is necessary on long-term issues like funding, standards, school safety, and college affordability, with equal focus on more immediate and pressing issues like ESSA (and SSA!) implementation, and human and civil rights in light of the recent movements to support Black lives. I have witnessed firsthand the impacts of a quality education and I understand the perspectives of disadvantaged students. Because of my personal history and belief in the power of education I remain committed in decreasing inequity and strengthening our education institutions.
