Quarantine guidelines can change depending on the local spread of COVID-19. Use these Local Public Health guidelines as of October 19, 2021:

If you are NOT fully vaccinated and have no symptoms:

You must quarantine for at least 10 days after close contact and monitor yourself for symptoms for 14 days.

  • If you develop symptoms of COVID-19 anytime in the 14 days after close contact, isolate yourself from others and get tested.
  • Symptoms may vary and may range from mild to severe.
  • Call your doctor, clinic, or Multnomah County COVID Call Center if you have any questions.

If you are fully vaccinated*:

You do not need to quarantine after close contact with someone who has COVID-19 or has tested positive for COVID-19, unless you have symptoms or meet one of the situations listed below. Get a COVID test within 14 days (5-7 days is ideal) after your close contact. Monitor yourself for symptoms for 14 days.

  • If you develop symptoms anytime in the 14 days after close contact, isolate yourself from others and get tested.
  • Symptoms might include new loss of taste or smell, cough, fever, or shortness of breath.
  • Call your doctor or clinic if you have any questions.

In the following situations, you are required to quarantine for 14 days, even if you are fully vaccinated:

  • If you live in a long term care facility, adult family/foster home, or other residential healthcare or licensed group setting, or
  • If you are in the hospital

*Fully vaccinated means you have completed the vaccine series (2 doses for Moderna/Pfizer and 1 dose for Janssen) and more than 2 weeks have passed since finishing the vaccine series.
