The Multnomah County Auditor is seeking two community members to serve on the Salary Commission. The Salary Commission sets the salaries for the Chair of the Board of County Commissioners, County Commissioners, the Sheriff, and the County-paid supplemental salary of the District Attorney. The Salary Commission is a private body; however, Salary Commissioners are considered to be public officials. (Training on being a public official will be included as part of the on-boarding process of new commissioners.)

Apply to serve on the Salary Commission

How the County Auditor selects the Salary Commission:

In the fall of every odd year, the Auditor confirms whether prior members of the Salary Commission will be able to continue their service. The Auditor's Office will work with the Office of Community involvement in order to recruit members. Commission members can come from both the public and private sectors.

There are currently two open seats on the Salary Commission.

Deadline to apply:

All applications must be submitted by 11:59pm on Monday, November 15, 2021.

Qualifications:

- Salary commissioners are to be qualified human resource professionals with compensation experience.
- Elected or appointed County officials and employees cannot serve on the Commission.
- Members of the Salary Commission must reside in Multnomah County.

Membership terms:

Membership terms are one-year terms. There are no term limits.

Meetings:

We anticipate that all of the Commission's meetings will include an option to participate remotely using google meet, or that the meetings will be entirely remote. The Commission usually meets about once a month for five or six months.

Travel Reimbursement:

The County provides reimbursement for parking as well as Trimet passes to support community member participation on the Audit Committee. The Salary Commission is established in County Home Rule Charter Chapter 4, Section 4.30:The auditor shall appoint a five-member salary commission, composed of qualified human resource professionals with compensation experience, by January 1 of each even year. The salary commission shall set the salaries for the chair of the board of county commissioners, county commissioners, sheriff and the county paid supplemental salary of the district attorney, documenting the basis of its decisions. All elected or appointed Multnomah County officials and employees are prohibited from serving on the salary commission.
