Community Health Specialist
Similar to the rest of the Multnomah County-REACH staff, James Demry has strong ties to the Portland, Oregon area. Originally born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he later came to Oregon in 1986 and from there completed his high school education at Grant High School. He has since lived in Portland throughout the rest of his adult life.
James joins the REACH team after working in the nonprofit sector for over 10 years. His expertise lies specifically within peer recovery and mental health services. Through this work, he learned that education, providing resources and other supports are essential to improvement of individuals and the general community.
The majority of his previous work experience (over the last decade) comes from his time employed by Bridges to Change, a nonprofit organization that is a peer led program for treatment addiction and mental health services. Initially starting as a recovery mentor, he finished his time with Bridges to Change as the organization’s Associate Director.
During his leisure time, James enjoys reading, playing basketball and weight lifting as personal hobbies. Also, as a family-oriented man, he finds much pleasure in spending as much time with his four children as possible.
Through his position as a Community Health Specialist, he is determined to work with REACH’s partners to improve our overall health and wellness as a community. He will be responsible for the coordination of future ACHIEVE Coalition meetings and work closely with many of the REACH program's community partners.
