During construction, 238th Drive is closed to through traffic from Arata Road to Oregon Street. Access is maintained for neighbors who live between Arata Road and Oregon Street. Through traffic should use alternate routes on main roads such as Halsey St., Glisan St., 223rd Ave. and 257th Drive and avoid residential side streets.
Path Update: Next week the new shared path on the west side of 238th Drive is expected to open and the east sidewalk will close so the contractor can demolish it and widen the road to the east. This shift depends on resolution of a conflict with a Comcast utility. We will email an update when the schedule is confirmed.
Utilities: We continue to work with Comcast to remove their concrete-encased pipe that is in conflict with the retaining wall that will be built on the east side of the road.
Paving: On June 2, the contractor paved the base lift of the new shared use path along the west side of 238th, which had no sidewalk before the project. Another two-inch layer will be added this summer.
Curbs and Sidewalks: New curbs and sidewalks are being built at the north end of the project near the entrance to Treehill condominiums. Next week construction of planters for trees and stormwater treatment will begin.
Retaining Walls: Excavation for the walls along the east side of 238th Drive began this week. The contractor will build a gabion wall system to support the widened road. It will feature rows of steel baskets filled with rocks. A concrete slab on top of the wall will support the parapet and railing. Demolition of the old east curb and sidewalk will begin after the conflict with a Comcast utility is resolved.
Stormwater: Installation of an underground pipe to carry stormwater down the 238th Drive hill continues.
Work Hours: If the weather is good, the contractor typically works on Saturdays, from 8 am to 7 pm.Project Website: For project information, sign-ups for updates, or to contact the project team visit: multco.us/238th.
