New sidewalks have come to a section of SE Stark St. near Mount Hood Community College, thanks to funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.  A federal stimulus grant to Multnomah County paid for new sidewalks along SE Stark St. between SW 257th Ave./Kane Drive and Troutdale Rd., on the north side of Mt. Hood Community College.  This section of Stark St. previously lacked sidewalks.

This project was primarily a safety improvement and placed concrete curb and sidewalk for most of this location mentioned above. In areas where the work intersected existing driveways and streets, the concrete was replaced with asphalt to accommodate adjoining elevations. This asphalt will be replaced with concrete when the road is widened in the future. The concrete curb and sidewalk placed as part of this project are at the future final location of the widening.

This project included additional sidewalks on NE Halsey St. near City Park in Wood Village. Because this was a federal grant program, the Oregon Department of Transportation administered the contract. Multnomah County oversaw the day-to-day work.
