This SUN Service System (SUN) program offers direct services to sexual and gender minority youth (SGMY) technical assistance, and training to support SUN agencies and other community partners in the ability to work effectively with sexual minority youth.
The SGMY program provides community services specifically for sexual and gender minority youth to support youth in remaining in or returning to school. Services provided by the SGMY program include counseling services, support groups, and one-on-one mentorship. Services for SGMY are provided by New Avenues For Youth (NAFY) and the Sexual Minority Youth Resource Center which provides SGMY with supportive social environment and peer support.
Additionally, through NAFY's Bridge 13 program technical assistance and training are provided to support SUN Service System staff and partners, to increase awareness of SGMY issues, and provide context on how to deal with the issues competently.
