Jessica Morkert-Shibley is a communications coordinator for Multnomah County. She joined the team in August 2014. Her areas of focus include the County's Department of Community Justice, Animal Services and Elections.
Jessica comes to the county as a 12-year-veteran of the broadcast journalism field. She graduated from Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication with a degree in broadcast journalism. She also received a secondary bachelor's degree in French — also from Arizona State University. She spent several years working for broadcast stations in Arizona, California and Arkansas.
Her last seven years in broadcast journalism were spent as a general assignment reporter for KOIN T.V. in Portland — often covering public safety, social justice issues and natural disasters.
Jessica came to Multnomah County to see the other side of the job. “A lot of people don’t know the wealth of services the county offers,” she says. In the future she looks forward to building more relationships and collaborating to figure out “how to make the community as a whole better.”
In her free time, Jessica is a cliche soccer mom who loves spending time with her family. She also enjoys exercise including running and yoga. She is an avid podcast and Audible listener (perfect for long runs). And as an amateur pianist, she adores music particularly movie scores. As she continues her work at the county, Jessica says she’s excited to continue learning from her coworkers and to continue building relationships with the public.
