A broken water main at SW First Ave. and SW Madison St. has closed the Hawthorne Bridge in both directions Sunday, April 9. The bridge is expected to be closed through the night while crews make repairs. The break happened late Sunday morning. Portland Water Bureau crews are onsite making repairs. A Water Bureau news release reports that the repairs may keep the bridge closed overnight. Crews are working to get the bridge reopened in time for the Monday morning commute.
Until the Hawthorne Bridge reopens, drivers should use alternate crossings such as the Ross Island, Marquam and Morrison bridges. Please note that the Morrison Bridge is only open westbound from the freeway, due to a construction project.
