Community 101 involves students through service, leadership and charitable giving; we learn about our community through volunteering and grantmaking.
Our YAV Community 101 group has the opportunity to distribute $4,000 to Oregon youth-led groups who want to take ownership over issues of violence that affect them and lead a project that relates to one or more of YAV’s policy recommendations, which are tied to seven different forms of violence and Restorative Justice: anti-gay and gender, police, gang, cyberbullying, school (bullying), home/family, sexual/dating violence. Grants can be up to $1,000 and will promote our mission statement, which is:
“We, the youth of Multnomah Youth Commission’s Youth Against Violence subcommittee, strive to empower youth-led organizations, school programs and groups to engage in anti-violence initiatives in our communities. With the assistance of the PGE Foundation, we will target youth organizations and school groups within the City of Portland and Multnomah County.”
We will be accepting grant applications until February 13, 2017. Please complete and attach grant application and submit it to the address listed below. We will review all proposals and request a site visit and/or interview with a representative from your group. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
The following criteria must be met in order to be considered:
❏ Application must be youth-led and written by youth
❏ Project must be youth-led specifically about violence
❏ Project must address one or more of YAV’s policy recommendation and Restorative Justice (included in application)
❏ Application must be complete and submitted by Monday, February 13, 2017 (see below)
❏ If you are considered, a youth representative must interview and/or meet with YAV co-chairs
You will be notified of our decision by March 22nd and grants will be awarded by March 24th, 2017. If you have any questions, you may email us, the YAV Co-Chairs at Christinagliu@gmail.com and Reyna.Tapia77@gmail.com or call Jennesa Datema, The Oregon Community Foundation, 503-227-6846.

Sincerely,
Co-Chair of YAV, Co-Chair of YAV,
