breastfeeding mom in the nursery

Breastfeeding is the key to good health for mothers and babies. The World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding for at least the first 1-2 years of your child’s life. Formula feeding can increase health risks to infants.

Families that receive help and encouragement with breastfeeding are more likely to overcome issues that can cause them to stop.

WIC can help you prepare for breastfeeding and support you along the way.

Peer Counseling Groups

Led by WIC moms who breastfed their own children. Peer counselors support you with information and a listening ear during pregnancy until your baby is 6 to 12 months old.

In peer counseling groups, you’ll learn how to overcome common breastfeeding challenges and discover the rewards. You’ll meet other moms with similar due dates, and be able to share what’s happening in your pregnancy and with parenting.

You’ll also learn:

  • Amazing things about your body and baby
  • Ways to keep your relationships healthy after baby is born
  • Practices in the hospital that can help or hurt early bonding with your baby
  • Infant massage

To sign up, call us at 503 988-3503 or stop by one of our WIC locations.
