What I've done for Troutdale:

• Met with neighborhood groups to work out their concerns with development issues;

• Supported funding to police, for increased community safety;

• Supported the River Safety Lifeguard program on the Sandy River, and Troutdale Booster Club;

• Fiscally responsible with taxpayers dollars;

• Mediated an emotional forum with Fairview and Troutdale police, school administrators and parents regarding school safety issues;

What I will do:

• Work to officially recognize neighborhood groups, so citizens have a more formal avenue to express ideas to city leaders;

• Continue to be your "common sense councilor";

• Develop a vision for the future for the land vacated by the old sewer treatment plant downtown;

• Support continued business growth that helps our tax base, bringing greater wealth for city police and fire protection, without raising property taxes;

I ask for your vote for the Troutdale City Council because I will always be independent in making decisions, voting what I think the citizens would want for their city. I will not be influenced by outside interests.

I have lived in Troutdale since 1992 and managed a local business. After joining the Chamber of Commerce, I served on its Board of Directors for four years.

As a citizen of Troutdale and a Chamber member, I have followed and experienced our city council at work, both directly and indirectly. The council has made many hard decisions over the years. I have agreed with and some and disagreed with others. For the most part I commend our present council.

What I have disagreed with is the desire of some of our elected officials to raise our taxes and fees without regard to the harm it does to local property owners and taxpayers. And I think some officials want to spend too much on new programs the city can't afford.

Some taxes within our city are already higher than anywhere in the tri-county area.

That is why I think it's time for a change.

Our small community is great right now, so let's just keep it simple and maintain what we have. You and I have to live within our personal budgets, so should Troutdale.

I am a strong supporter of our schools, especially better learning programs for our grade schools and head start programs which promote reading. Reynolds is our school district and we should support it, for the sake of a better Troutdale.

VOTE STEVEN L. ELLIS FOR TROUTDALE CITY COUNCIL.
